Famous last words on knee replacement..."I'm not going to a nursing home."
Those were the famous last words spoken by Carol Kinas of Green Lake as she prepared for knee replacement surgery and after care. Carol figured with the assistance of family and friends she could recuperate at home as she did with her first knee replacement. Last time she had her husband to help her, but he had passed away three years ago.
The surgery went well and Carol returned home, but it was more difficult than she expected. "I couldn't manage alone and I had heard good thing about Markesan Resident Home. I decided to recover there," she said.
For two weeks Carol stayed at Markesan Resident Home. "I made the right decision. I was able to rest and the staff and residents were great, and the food was really good," Carol said.
Carol fostered a special relationship with the therapy staff. Wes Elford oversaw Carol's sessions. "The therapy staff is friendly. We set goals and with the staff's encouragement, I kept improving everyday."
In addition to rehabilitation, Carol soon found herself becoming part of a unique community. "I played bingo and talked with everyone in the dining room everyday." Carol's rapid recovery didn't go unnoticed by others. Carol said, "All my friends and family were amazed at my progress. The first time I had knee surgery, I had rehad at home and it wasn't successful. I would consider Markesan Resident Home a five-star place."
Carol returned home after the two-week stay at Markesan Resident Home. Twice a week she came back for outpatient therapy and has now resumed her active life, but plans to keep Markesan Resident Home close to her heart.
